Smart

It is generally recommended to place them with at least 30cm distance from the back and side walls. Ideally, the listener should also be seated with some distance from the rear wall. Precise spatial imaging is achieved when you position your front speakers in the so-called "stereo triangle." The surround speakers should ideally be located behind the listener at an equal distance from the listening position. Placement recommendations can also be found in your speaker's user manual.

This operating mode is not possible. You can either connect one or more Smart subwoofers and/or active subwoofers to the subwoofer PRE OUT using an RCA cable (subwoofer cable, possibly with a Y-cable) or wirelessly connect one Smart subwoofer from Canton. Mixed operation of both modes is not provided.

Connect all sources directly to the Canton Smart product to avoid issues such as faulty image rendering. TV internal sources (tuner, apps) can output a multichannel signal via ARC/eARC. External sources connected directly to the TV can only output a stereo signal. Direct connection to the Canton Smart device guarantees the best audio signal.

Our Smart products use the HDMI® 2.0b standard with HDCP 2.2 copy protection. Detailed technical data can be found on our website for each product under the download section as a PDF file. Here, all supported video formats and numerous other technical details about the device are listed.

Bookshelf speakers typically do not have the low bass capabilities of floor-standing speakers or active subwoofers. Therefore, use an active subwoofer. Without a subwoofer, you should operate your bookshelf speakers in "Large" mode to direct the low bass components to the speakers.

After integrating the Canton Smart product into the Wi-Fi and setting up Google Cast, the LED will stop blinking and light up continuously green. This is a requirement from Google. If you do not want to set up the device, you can turn off the blinking LED in the "System Settings" (SYS) menu under "Display Settings" (UIS) at "LED Blinking" (LED) to "OFF". Then the LED will light up red/green instead of green to indicate that the device is not set up.

With the powerful Smart Amp 5.1 (S2) as a multiroom AV amplifier with Dolby Atmos® technology, up to 6 wired passive speakers and up to 8 additional wireless speakers from the Canton Smart series can be combined into a 7.1.4 multichannel system.

Ideally, connect your Smart Soundbar via the HDMI® ARC input to the HDMI® ARC / eARC input of your TV. This allows you to use the integrated on-screen display, which provides convenient menu navigation. If your TV does not have an HDMI® ARC / eARC input, we recommend connecting via the optical (digital) output of the TV using a TOSLink cable. If the TV does not have an optical output either, please use the analog output (AUX) or, in an emergency, the headphone output.

The on-screen display can only be shown if you have selected the HDMI® input on your TV to which the Canton Smart device is connected (usually the ARC / eARC input). When using TV-internal sources such as a tuner or apps, the OSD cannot be displayed. To adjust the Canton Smart device via the OSD, you must first select the corresponding HDMI® input.

The difference between the 1st and 2nd generation is that the 2nd generation added the Apple AirPlay 2 function. In addition, the 2nd generation Smart Soundbar 10 includes the improved eARC HDMI® interface, which allows the transmission of object-based audio such as Dolby Atmos® with the highest quality.

You can also connect and operate your Smart floor-standing speakers via cable. It must be ensured that both speakers have the latest firmware (firmware version 1.63 or newer).

Our Smart products support wireless connection with one Smart subwoofer. However, it is possible to operate two or more Smart subwoofers or active subwoofers via a cable connection (using one or more Y-RCA cables).

Both models support up to six wired speakers in a 5.1 configuration and up to eight wireless Canton Smart speakers. The maximum configuration is 7.1.4 with four Dolby Atmos® speakers, combined from wireless and wired speakers. At the same time, two speaker pairs, a center speaker, and a subwoofer can be connected. For passive speakers, the Smart Connect requires a separate power amplifier for each speaker.

No, this is technically not possible. As the product name of our Smart Amp suggests, the Smart Amp 5.1 has six channels, but these are designed for a 5.1 configuration. The sixth channel is bandwidth-limited and can only be used for a passive subwoofer. The remaining five channels can be used for satellite speakers and the center speaker.

Our Smart series is fully active and does not require an additional amplifier. With soundbars, soundboxes, and sound decks, no additional source device is needed when playing music from mobile devices. Smart hi-fi speakers (e.g., Smart Vento, Townus, GLE) support music streaming only via Bluetooth® with Qualcomm® aptXTM. For network music playback, use the Smart Connect 5.1 (S2) or Smart Amp 5.1 (S2), which also supports HDMI® sources (with ARC/eARC) and Dolby Atmos®. Smart hi-fi speakers offer "out of the box" a Dolby Audio and DTS Digital Surround decoder and enable a 5.1 multi-channel system.

When using large speakers (Large) in "Stereo" playback mode with the "Sub Stereo Parallel" function activated, you can reproduce the full music signal (including bass components) through the front speakers and additionally the bass components through the subwoofer. In the Sub Stereo "Xover" mode, however, it is possible to separate the signals between the subwoofer and the (large) front speakers at an adjustable crossover frequency (40 to 100 Hertz).

No, the WiSA protocol is not supported by Canton. Our Smart devices use a Canton proprietary wireless protocol (developed around the same time) to pair smart Canton speakers and build a stereo or multi-channel system. While we also use frequencies in the 5 GHz spectrum like WiSA, the two wireless protocols are not compatible with each other.

Connect your Canton Smart product to the power supply and wait until "NET SET" or "WIF SET" is displayed (about 3 minutes). Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® on your mobile device. Open the Google Home app, follow the instructions, and assign a Google account to the app. Alternatively, you can use the Canton Smart app: Select "Settings" > "New Device" > "Android WiFi Config" to connect the device to your network.

This function is only available if at least one speaker in the system is designated as "Small." Then you can set the crossover frequency between a connected subwoofer and a small or bookshelf speaker using the "Xover small speakers" function.

Our Smart Amp 5.1 has six amplifier channels that cannot be bridged. The Smart Amp 5.1 allows load impedances from nominal 4 to 16 ohms (minimum = 3 ohms). The output power of the amp is higher at 4-ohm speakers than at 8-ohm speakers. Please refer to the detailed technical documentation available for download on our website for the exact power values.

Service

Canton stands for quality - we thoroughly inspect every product. If a defect occurs, please contact our service team. We will try to solve the problem via email or phone. If necessary, we will send a free shipping label or pick up the speaker. Our service department will then ensure a quick replacement or repair.

Since we manufacture almost every part of our speakers ourselves, we can repair almost any old product. We often have original spare parts and also offer replacement drivers that are technically current and identical. For defective electronics, we offer repairs or replacements.

Canton provides a 5-year warranty on passive speakers and a 10-year warranty on the 2023 Reference series. For active speakers and electronics, a 2-year warranty applies. The warranty begins with the purchase and is only valid for the first buyer when using the original packaging. Transport damage and improper use are excluded. The claim does not extend through the replacement of parts. In case of damage, contact the authorized dealer or Canton service directly.

Yes, it is possible. Please consult your user manual for this. In the system settings (SYS), you will find the menu item IR Menu (IRM) and below it IR Learning (IRL). Follow the instructions in the user manual and the on-screen menu. You will need the Canton Smart remote control and the infrared TV/universal remote control. With a Smart Connect 5.1 and the Smart Soundbox 3, this function is also accessible via the touch panel without the Canton Smart remote control.

Check the cable connection between the amplifier and the speaker and use another cable if necessary. To test, swap the speaker cables at the amplifier or speakers, so the left speaker is connected to the right output and vice versa. Start playback. If the fault moves to the other side, the amplifier is defective. If the fault remains on the same side, the speaker is defective. For center speakers, use a front speaker for testing. Test another audio source, such as a CD player or mobile streaming, to ensure that the signal source is not the problem.

No, that is unfortunately not possible. Our products are currently only compatible with the HDR10 standard. Detailed technical information and a list of all supported video formats can be downloaded as a PDF from our website.

The "Large" mode is generally suitable for "large speakers" (floor-standing speakers), and the "Small" mode for "small speakers" (bookshelf speakers). Even smaller speakers, such as our InWall/InCeiling or Movie speakers, should be operated in "Small" mode. Center speakers from the GLE to Reference series can also be set to "Large" or "Small" with a low crossover frequency of 40Hz to 60Hz.

One of the biggest factors is the cabinet. Curved cabinets are much more complex and labor-intensive to manufacture, but they have a significant impact on the speaker's sound. Another influencing factor is the material of the drivers; from aluminum drivers to our premium ceramic-tungsten drivers, there is a significant difference in manufacturing complexity. Additionally, the quality and design of the crossover and the quality of the internal wiring play a crucial role. High-quality crossovers minimize distortion, resulting in clearer and more natural sound. Likewise, high-quality internal wiring helps to minimize the cable's impact (through parasitic effects) on the audio signal, which overall leads to improved sound quality.

Generally, bookshelf and floor-standing speakers should be placed with some distance from the back and side walls. Ideally, the listener should also be seated with some distance from the rear wall. Precise spatial imaging is achieved when you position your speakers in the famous "stereo triangle." The listener sits at the apex of an equilateral triangle. Placement recommendations can also be found in your speaker's user manual. Our speakers are all tuned to an ear height (when seated) of about 110cm. How else could a customer manage to have the tweeter at ear height with different floor-standing speakers or with bookshelf speakers on the same stands?

This phenomenon occurs when the right and left channels are reversed. Make sure that the right channel of the amplifier is connected to the right speaker and the left channel to the left speaker. On some amplifiers, the left and right connections are reversed when viewed from the back and correspond to the other side.

To fully exploit the sound potential of your speakers, we recommend using powerful amplifiers that match the nominal power rating of your speakers. For example, our new Reference 5 has a nominal power rating of 200 watts. Therefore, the amplifier or power amplifier should also have a power output of around 200 watts per channel at 4 ohms. However, it should be noted that each amplifier and manufacturer offers its own sound characteristics, and the listening taste of each individual is decisive here.

Ensure proper polarity when connecting your speaker cables. The cables usually have a (colored) marking and/or printing on one of the two conductors, which indicates the polarity. Connect the marked conductor to the positive pole (usually marked red) on both the speaker and the amplifier. The connection scheme must be the same for both speakers; otherwise, you will experience the described sound image due to the inverse movement of the woofers. Also, check the sound settings of your amplifier.

The black ceramic-tungsten drivers are currently our highest quality woofers and midrange drivers. They have the highest ceramic content of all our drivers, are in perfect balance of stiffness to weight, and thus ensure even more precise sound. The DCC tweeter (Diamond-Ceramic-Carbon) of our Reference GS is our newest and highest quality tweeter, which delivers crystal-clear highs through the use of a diamond dome.

You can upgrade your home theater system with our Smart Amp 5.1 (S2) amplifier to a 7.1.4 system. The last digit indicates the number of Dolby Atmos® speakers in your system. A "2" means two Dolby Atmos® or Dolby Atmos® enabled speakers, a "4" means four speakers. These are either mounted as direct radiators on or in the ceiling or as Dolby Atmos® enabled speakers on the front and/or surround speakers. Dolby Atmos® enabled speakers are designed to produce the height signal through ceiling reflection.

We recommend the CantoLink 400 or 600 from our range, as they are perfectly matched to our speakers. Ah, can cables be matched to all speakers simultaneously? We should omit this and "convince" with real technical data: Our CantoLink 400 offers excellent technical data: With a conductor cross-section of 2x 2.65mm², it has a conductor resistance of only 0.0065Ω/m (at 21°C) and a parallel capacitance of only 0.21nF/m.

The subwoofer should not be placed too close to a side or rear wall; corner placement is generally not recommended. You can connect the subwoofer to the subwoofer output of the amplifier or receiver with an RCA cable. Our Smart Subwoofers can be wirelessly connected to all Smart products. If the subwoofer module has a high-level input, you can also connect the subwoofer via the speaker terminals of the amplifier.

Speaker types

Sound decks are flatter but deeper than soundbars, specifically designed to be placed directly under the TV. They offer easy setup and are ideal for those who do not have space for wall mounting or prefer a more stable base for their TV. Compared to built-in TV speakers, sound decks also deliver significantly improved sound quality.

Floor-standing speakers are large, free-standing speakers that offer powerful bass with a deep lower frequency and clear highs. They are ideal for hi-fi and home theater applications in rooms where placement away from the wall is possible.

A soundbar is an elongated speaker with a shallow depth, placed in front of a TV or computer screen or mounted on the wall (like a TV) to achieve a space-saving solution for significantly improved TV sound or to listen to music. A sound deck looks quite similar to a soundbar from the front but has a much greater depth. This allows for the installation of several drivers with a larger volume, which is particularly noticeable in deep bass. The screen or TV can be easily placed on the sound deck, creating a "clean" look without requiring additional space.

In-wall speakers are discreet speakers that are almost invisible when installed in walls or ceilings. Perfect for home theater or multi-room audio applications, as they save space and provide even sound, although the installation can be a bit more complex.

Center speakers are specially designed for reproducing the "center channel," which mainly includes dialogues in home theater systems. They provide clear voice reproduction, enhancing the intelligibility of film dialogues. They are usually placed below or above the TV or screen.

Bookshelf speakers are smaller, space-saving speakers that are particularly suitable for small rooms or close-to-wall placement. Despite their compact size, they offer good sound quality and are also ideal as surround or rear speakers in home theater systems.

Soundbars are slim, elongated speaker bars that impress with their space-saving design. They are often mounted on the wall under the TV and are especially suitable for rooms with limited space. The setup is uncomplicated, and the sound quality is significantly better than that of the built-in TV speakers.

Built-in speaker

Installing our ceiling and wall speakers in rooms with higher humidity is generally not a problem. However, the speakers should not be installed directly above wet areas (shower/bathtub).

In-wall speakers are discreet speakers that are almost invisible when installed in walls or ceilings. Perfect for home theater or multi-room audio applications, as they save space and provide even sound, although the installation can be a bit more complex.

We offer two universal wall and ceiling speakers with the Pro XL.3 and the Pro X.3, as well as an in-ceiling speaker for outdoor use with the InCeiling 969 Pro Outdoor. Our outdoor speakers are protected against rust thanks to their aluminum grilles on the Pro XL.3 and Pro X.3 models, and powder-coated stainless steel grilles on the InCeiling 969 Pro Outdoor, making them ideal for outdoor use.

General Questions

Subwoofers are responsible for reproducing low frequencies such as deep bass and bass. They complement other speakers, especially in home theater systems, and handle the reproduction of the LFE (Low-Frequency Effect) channel in multichannel recordings. Subwoofers are used as part of a speaker system.

We offer speakers for every budget. The entry-level "GLE" series offers acoustically excellent floor-standing, bookshelf, ceiling, and wall speakers at affordable prices. Our Movie sets include a complete home theater system with a center speaker, four satellites, and a subwoofer. You can also find models with an excellent price-performance ratio in the C and B series (online exclusive) and some Smart products. The C series offers the best price-performance ratio. Our customer service team is happy to help you find the optimal system.

You can easily find a dealer near you using our dealer search at the following link: https://www.canton.de/en/support/store-locator/. Just enter your postal code or city name in the search, and you will see all Canton dealers in your area.

Our original packaging optimally protects your speakers. Keep the packaging, protective corners, and accessories. You can flatten the box and store the protective parts separately. This will avoid transport damage during returns, complaints, or resale.

Speakers are sensitive to positioning. Too close to the wall causes bass-heavy sound, too close together results in weak stereo effect, and too far apart creates diffuse sound. Room architecture and furnishings also influence the sound. Hard walls and glass surfaces produce bright sound, while carpets and upholstered furniture dampen it. Take your time for optimal placement.

High-quality speakers require high-quality materials and complex manufacturing. Especially the cabinets of the Reference and Vento series demand a lot of precision. The complex, multi-layered walls ensure stability and reduced self-resonance. Modern technologies enable membranes with an optimal stiffness-to-weight ratio. All high-priced Canton speakers are carefully manufactured in Germany, ensuring long-lasting quality and 100% control.

A classic passive speaker must be driven by an amplifier. An active speaker, simply put, already has an amplifier built-in. Our Smart speakers offer you exactly this innovative solution. Once connected to the power supply, they can be conveniently operated via Google Cast or AirPlay, for example.

Most of our floor-standing speakers can also be used without a subwoofer, as they are very broad in frequency response. Smaller speakers, in particular, benefit from the support in the low-frequency range provided by a subwoofer. The load capacity of the speakers increases when a subwoofer takes over the low-frequency work and the bookshelf speakers are relieved of these frequencies by a high-pass filter in the amplifier. As a result, the small speakers can play more freely and often reward this with improved spatial imaging.
